Cobb County police responded to a report of a shooting at about 2:20 p.m. and found Sealer on the green of the 10th hole of the Pennytree Country Club in Kennesaw, according to a police department press release.
Police said Sealer, who worked at the club, was found unresponsive with “a bullet apparently in the head” and pronounced dead at the scene.
A club member told CNN affiliate WXIA that the suspect was driving into the green in a white Ram 3500 pickup truck and shot the 41-year-old Sealer when he went to see what was going on. WXIA reported that the suspect then escaped.
The bulletin said that the police discovered that the truck was still on the green zone and found the bodies of two men in the bed of the truck. Police said the two victims appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds.
One of the two men has been identified as Paul Pearson, the registered owner of the Ram 3500, but the other victim has yet to be identified, according to police.
Police are still searching for the suspect, who has not been identified.
Students at Kennesaw State University, whose campus is located near the country club, received an alert about the incident from the university’s emergency management Twitter account, and the Georgia State Golf Association has expressed its condolences for Sealer’s death. “All of us at the GSGA are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred earlier today at Pinetree CC. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gene Siller’s family and friends,” the association wrote on Twitter.
According to the Pinetree Country Club, Sealer left behind a wife and two children, ages 6 and 7.
The Georgia Professional Golfers Association tweeted: “Tragedy has struck the Georgia PGA Division with the loss of our member, Jane Sealer. Thoughts and prayers for his family and that of the Pinetree Country Club.”
US PGA President Jim Richerson also issued a statement saying, “We are truly saddened to hear of the senseless murder that took place yesterday at the Pine Tree Country Club in Georgia that claimed the life of PGA member Gene Siler,” the statement read. “PGA America sends our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy to his family, club, and Georgia PGA community.”
The Sealers set up a GoFundMe page to help with finances.
CNN’s Laura James and Jane Bernstein contributed to this report.
