President Biden on Sunday celebrated the United States’ near-independence from the coronavirus, emphasizing unity against him and other July 4th challenges as president.
“Today, throughout this nation, we can say with confidence: America is coming back together,” Biden said in his speech. “Two hundred and forty-five years ago, we declared independence from a distant king. Today, we are closer than ever to declaring our independence from a deadly virus. This does not mean that the battle against COVID-19 is over. We have a lot of work to do.”
But he added, “It no longer cripples our nation, and we can be sure that doesn’t happen again.”
Biden made his Independence Day remarks to a crowd of military families and frontline workers at the White House barbecue.
Even though his administration has missed its goal of 70 percent of Americans receiving at least one COVID-19 vaccine by July 4, the president emphasized how far the country has come during the pandemic, saying people can now go back to work, kids. . They go back to school and the economy is on the rise.
According to government data, 67 percent of adults in the United States have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 58 percent have been fully vaccinated.

Echoing the points he made during last year’s election campaign and in his first address to a joint session of Congress, Biden repeatedly stressed unity, saying that when Americans put their differences aside, there is nothing they can’t overcome.
“Together we defeat the virus,” he said. “Together we breathe life into our economy. Together we will save our people from division and despair. But together we must do it.”
His comments came amid growing concern over the emergence of different types of infectious coronavirus in the face of the constant hesitation in vaccines. As of last week, the delta variant has been detected in all 50 states.
Preliminary studies indicated that existing vaccines are useful against variants of the coronavirus, and Biden appealed to those who did not do so to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
“My fellow Americans, this is the most patriotic thing you can do, so please if they don’t get vaccinated. Do it now. Do it for yourself, your loved ones and your communities,” he said.
“The best defense against these species is vaccination,” Biden added.
Beyond the pandemic, Biden alluded to issues Americans face ranging from climate change to the fight for transgender rights, giving a clear indication of voter rights, which Democrats say are under assault in multiple states across the country.
“Every day we remember that there is nothing guaranteed about our democracy. We have to fight for it,” he said, adding that “the right to vote and to count that vote” is sacred.
