QB Trevor Lawrence signs $36.8 million contract with Jacksonville Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Jaguars quarterback and No. 1 overall Trevor Lawrence signed his four-year rookie contract Monday, paving the way for him to attend the start of training camp in three weeks’ time.

Under the NFL’s Rising Notch system, Lawrence’s deal was expected to be worth $36.8 million and include a signing bonus of $24.1 million. It will count $6.7 million from the maximum salary in 2021. The contract also includes a fifth-year option associated with each freshman deal for first-round picks.

A source told ESPN’s Adam Shifter that contract details include:

Lawrence’s signing bonus will be paid within 15 days and the quarterback will be deemed to have passed their physical bag to sign for bonus purposes.

There is no compensation language in the contract, which means he will still receive the full amount of the guaranteed money left in his contract even if he is released and signed with another team.

The majority of Lawrence’s compensation will come in his bonuses on 2022, 23 and 24. He will get this bonus if he is on the 90-man list on the third day after the mandatory reporting date.

Lawrence will get his reward even if he is on the list of active non-football related injuries.

With Lawrence’s contract, Jacksonville has now signed six of the nine picks. Running back Travis Etienne (first round), corner back Tyson Campbell (second) and offensive tackle Walker Little (second) were not signed.

Lawrence is expected to have an immediate start in his first year. He went 34-2 at Clemson, recording the third-best win percentage by a quarterback (at least 30 starts) in college football since 1978. He finished his college career unbeaten on a regular basis. – Play season and lead the Tigers to the National Championship as a freshman in 2018.
