Quentin Tarantino Buys Vista Theater in Los Angeles – Deadline

Quentin Tarantino has bought Los Angeles’ historic Vista Theater, historic Sunset Boulevard, the director and film scholar announced in a podcast.

“I bought the Vista on Sunset,” Tarantino said today on the Dax Shepard armchair expert podcast. “We will probably open it around Christmas. And again: movie only. It won’t be a revival house. We’ll be showing new movies coming out where you give us a movie print. It won’t be like the new Beverly.

Tarantino bought Landmark New Beverly in 2007. This venue, which shows 35mm and 16mm films, reopened last month.

“The Vista system is kind of like the jewel in the crown,” Tarantino said. “We’ll show old movies, but it’ll be like you can have an engagement for four nights.” Vista has been shut down due to the COVID pandemic shutdown.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood director did not provide additional details about the latest purchase, but did explain his feelings about the show’s current status, saying that some of the series had “ruled out all the privacy of the films.”

“Some of these chains where they show commercials through, they don’t turn off the lights, everything is stadium seats, plastic litter,” he said. “They wrote their own shrine for a long time, but they assumed the work would take you with you. It’s been crazy throughout my career to see how the movie experience is reduced to viewers like every five years.”

Tarantino said he thinks “small movie theaters” might be “thriving at this time,” adding, “And I’m not talking about La-Z-Boy, order nachos and margaritas. I actually like the Alamo Drafthouse a lot, but I have a living room. I want to go to the theatre “.
