A 4.6-magnitude earthquake near Hualien City, Hualien, Taiwan, was reported just 12 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), one of the main international agencies that monitors seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 22 km below the epicenter late on the night of Monday, July 5, 2021 at 11:12 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the earthquake may be reviewed within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and improve their calculations, or when other agencies release their report. It caused no significant damage, but it was probably felt by many people in the form of a slight vibration in the epicenter area. A weak tremor may have been felt in Hualien City (population 350,500) located 18 km from the epicenter, and Puli (population: 86,400) 51 km away. Including Lugu (population 19,600) located 74 km from the epicenter, Zhongxing New Village (population 25,500) 79 km, Nantou Town (population 105,700) 81 km, Taichung (population 1,047,700) at After 84 km, Yuanlin (pop. .124.700) is 90 km, and Dulio (104.700) is 95 km.
