You may have tried to download games to your Switch, you may have received a message due to lack of space. Not everyone knows how much space they have above their heads! I know I don’t. But in the latest update for the Nintendo Switch, there is now a useful feature.

It’s rather simple, actually. Here are the patch notes:

Version 12.1.0 (released July 5, 2021)

The following system functions have been added:

If there is not enough space left on the system memory (internal storage) or microSD card when downloading game software update data, you can now delete the old data for that software, allowing you to download the new data.

When you delete the old data, you will not be able to play the game until the new data finishes downloading.

General system stability improvements have been made to improve the user experience.

be seen? simple! But it was long overdue. Now, I suppose, people can easily free up space for their downloads instead of getting an error message. we will see!

The update also added some “general system stability improvements,” which seems to be a recurring phrase in Nintendo’s patch notes.

G/O Media may get commission

Last month, Switch owners had problems downloading games after a previous stability update. As Kotaku reported at the time, a number of Switch users were getting a specific error code, 2123-1502, while trying to download games and updates with firmware version 12.0.3 installed on their systems.

The latest update seems useful, but as any Switch owner can probably tell you, there is a laundry list of things that can or should be added. Maybe Nintendo will get around them. In the end.

(*cough* preservative*cough*)

If you’re not sure you’re running the current version, as Nintendo points out, you can check through the system menu and update manually in the system settings.
