Intelligent life may exist elsewhere in the universe besides Earth, and NASA is actively looking for signs, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in an interview Tuesday.

“If you have a universe that is 13.5 billion years old – it’s very big – is there another chance of another sun and another planet with an atmosphere like ours? I’d say yes, so I think we’ll get some insinuating that there’s intelligent life out there,” Nelson said during an interview. Tuesday.

In a report on unidentified flying objects released June 25, the US government could not explain 143 of the 144 cases of unidentified flying objects reported by military aircraft from 2004 to 2021, according to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Nelson told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” that NASA has been involved in the search for intelligent life for years, and noted that the agency is looking for life on planets in our solar system and elsewhere in the universe to identify other suns that have habitable atmospheres.

The former Florida senator added that part of the research involves learning more about Mars. NASA’s experimental helicopter made its ninth flight on the surface of Mars on Monday. Creativity flew for nearly 3 minutes, at speeds of up to 5 meters (more than 16 feet) per second, according to a tweet from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.

“At this particular time, we’re exploring a very sandy area to determine if the rover is going there and maybe getting stuck in the sand, so Ingenuity is doing amazing things,” Nelson said.

NASA described Ingenuity’s latest flight as “the most nerve-wracking since the first.”
