Biden delivers door-to-door vaccination efforts

President Joe Biden announced Tuesday that his administration will step up efforts to vaccinate Americans against COVID-19 with a new program that will go door-to-door, literally knocking on doors, urging people to get vaccinated.

During his remarks, the president said “we need to go from community to community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and often, door to door, literally knocking on doors” to encourage vaccination.

Those who knock on doors will provide information about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

The administration has failed to achieve its self-imposed goal of at least partially vaccinating 70% of eligible people in the country by the Fourth of July. In a briefing earlier today, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that by the end of this week nearly 160 million Americans will be fully vaccinated.

When asked if the administration would halt or slow down initiatives to persuade Americans to take the vaccine now that the rest seem unwilling, Psaki insisted efforts would continue, though she has ruled out any federal mandates for now.

Biden suggested that a unique door-knocking approach is needed now because “we continue to end mass pollination sites that have done so much in the spring.”

In addition to the door-to-door media campaign, Psaki said other actions will include a “renewed focus on getting vaccines to more primary care physicians” and increasing worker access at work sites.
