Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away earlier today at the age of 98. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital, Khar, in Mumbai for the past 15 days. His remains have been taken to his residence in Bandra. The grief-stricken Saira Banu, who was with Dilip in the hospital for two weeks, was also seen in the hospital.

Speaking to Indian Express, doctors at the hospital said his treatment has been going on for 3-4 months now. He suffered from advanced prostate cancer that had spread to other parts of his body.

He had water in the pleural cavity, and he had kidney failure. I needed blood transfusions several times. “We had the last blood transfusion but it didn’t help,” a doctor at the hospital said, adding that “the spread of the cancer made it difficult to treat.”

The artist’s official account on Twitter also confirmed the news of his death, “With a sad heart and deep sadness, I announce the departure of our beloved Dilip Saab minutes ago. We belong to God and to Him we shall return.” Another update said that the late actor’s last rites will take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial today at 5:00 pm. Juhu Qabristan in Santa Cruz, Mumbai.

Dilip Kumar, born Yusuf Khan, is survived by his wife, actress Saira Banu.

Famous singer Lata Mangeshkar, while tweeting about her loss of Dilip Kumar, also paid her respects to Saira Banu. She shared how over the past few years, Yusuf Bhai has been unwell and hasn’t been able to get to know anyone. The singer added that Saira Bhabhi left everything and served him day and night. “He had no other life. I bow to such a woman and pray that Yusuf Bhai’s soul rest in peace.”

His remains were taken to his residence in Bandra from Hinduja Hospital. Many fans, including hospital staff, thronged the area to bid farewell to their emotional hero. The celebrity was also spotted outside his home as they arrived to pay their last respects to the star. Shabana Azmi was the first to arrive at Dilip Kumar Saira Banu’s house. Earlier, Director Madhur Bhandarkar also visited Hinduja Hospital.

Senior actor Dharmendra was also spotted at Dilip Kumar’s home. Vidya Balan and her husband Siddharth Roy Kapoor were spotted upon their arrival at the deceased actor’s residence.

After visiting Dilip Kumar’s home to offer his condolences, Dharmendra spoke to the media stationed outside the late actor’s home. The actor said with folded hands, “It’s a very sad day today, we lost Dilip Sahab, I can’t say anything. He wasn’t my friend, he was my brother.”
