The assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise appears to have been partly caught on camera – the dramatic clips reveal the sound of multiple gunshots and scenes of armed men in the aftermath of the ambush.
“DEA operation! Everyone step aside!” A person with an American accent is heard saying in English over a loudspeaker in a clip first shared by the Miami Herald.
“DEA operation! Everyone back up, stop!” And the warning continued, according to a video clip filmed by one of the president’s neighbors around 1 am Wednesday in the hills above the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince.
An Eyepress video provided by Reuters was seen with the sound of more than 30 gunshots and the only other sound in the background was a dog barking.
A group of heavily armed men was also photographed by a neighbor standing around the president’s house at Bellerin 5, with a person forced to lie face down in the middle of the road.
The Miami Herald noted that the men may have been part of the security response after the attack.

However, some appeared to speak Spanish, which matches Haitian government officials’ claim that some of the team members “speak” the language, not typical French or Haitian Creole.
They appeared to be part of a convoy of at least five cars that was filmed slowly driving away from the spot where the controversial 53-year-old president was shot dead and the first lady was injured. The convoy showed “the gunmen leaving after the assassination,” according to another clip on the Eyepress website circulated by Reuters.
Despite the DEA announcement, sources insisted to the Miami Herald that the killers were not believed to be linked to the US agency.
