The Elsa Center made landfall today along the northern Florida Gulf Coast in Taylor County, Florida. Heavy rains across the state may cause urban and riverine flooding.

The risk remains for life-threatening storm surges along Florida’s west coast, as a storm surge warning remains in effect.

Elsa’s center will move inland, weaken to low and cross Georgia and Carolina today through tomorrow. Heavy rain will pass through these countries.

The Elsa Center will make the closest pass to Maryland Thursday night through Friday morning. The latest National Hurricane Center forecast shows Elsa increasing in intensity and recovering tropical storm strength during this time.

There is still some uncertainty about how far some bands of rain and tropical storm winds in Elsa will go north in Elsa, but for now officials feel confident that areas south and east of Baltimore will bear the brunt of this storm. Parts of the Lower East Coast and southernmost Maryland should brace for tropical storm winds, heavy rain and heavy waves.
