M1 MacBook battery life is so good Apple thought it was a bug

Apple claimed in a new interview that the battery life of the M1 MacBook was so good that they originally thought the battery indicator was buggy, and it failed to respond as the remaining life decreased.

This claim was made by Apple Vice President of Marketing Bob Borchers, who also suggested that future generations of Apple Silicon might be good enough to turn Macs into gaming machines…

Borchers spoke to Tom’s Guide, after tests for the site came close to matching Apple’s alleged 17 hours of wireless web browsing battery life.

The most surprising thing about the M1 is the battery life. For example, the MacBook Pro lasted 16 hours and 25 minutes in our web browsing test. The previous Intel model continued 10:21. That’s a big difference, and this increase has caused more than one vulnerability within Apple.

“When we saw this first system and then I sat there and played with it for a few hours and the battery didn’t move, we thought ‘Man, that’s wrong, the battery indicator is down,'” said Bob Purchers, VP of Global Product Marketing for Apple. “Then Tim laughs in the background,” said Bob Purchers. No, that’s the way it’s supposed to be “and it was pretty cool.”

Porschers said the real breakthrough was bringing that kind of life together with performance good enough to run Intel applications smoothly under the Rosetta 2.

“We started a small project years before the silicon transfer started to try to make sure we could actually deliver the second generation Rosetta in a way that would allow us to do that seamlessly,” said Miles. “And we think that was a big part of the transition story…everything went as expected.”

While the M1 Macs leave most comparable-priced Windows machines in the dust when it comes to performance, there is one area in which the situation reverses: gaming. Purchers suggested that this may not remain the case for future generations of Apple Silicon.

With rumors circulating about the future M1X chip for the 2021 MacBook Pro and the possible M2 chip for the MacBook Air 2022, Apple sees big things waiting for Apple Silicon, both in terms of bringing new designs and possibly appealing to the most demanding audience of all – gamers. After all, many of the engineers who make Apple chips are themselves gamers.

“Of course, you can imagine the pride of some of the GPU folks and imagine, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if I got to a broader group of these really intense gamers,’” Millett said. Our developers. We love a challenge.”

Tom’s Guide has named the M1 chip as a Hero award winner.
