Update: At 1:30 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office issued the following press release:
On July 9, during the early morning hours, the Carson City Mayor’s Office and the state’s Department of Investigation were asked to assist the Marshal and ATF agents in apprehending a murder suspect outside of San Jose, California.
The suspect, Adrien Laredo, born October 11, 1994, was in a busy neighborhood of North Rope Street and East Corbett Street, but was in the company of a child under the age of five.
It is believed that the child is the son of Laredo. Although the monitoring teams recognized Laredo outside the house several times during the morning, each time he walked out of the house he was accompanied by a small child.
By 11:30 AM, the Joint Agency operations leaders decided to use the SWAT team to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was arrested at 11:55 am without incident and transferred to Carson City Jail. There were no reports of injuries.
While the detention area was closed to the public for only 15 minutes, the sheriff’s office secured the entire neighborhood throughout the morning until the warrant for his arrest was issued.
The sheriff’s office used social media application platforms to inform residents and businesses in the area to stay indoors.
Full details of the San Jose murder were not immediately available. However, agents reported to local agencies that the murder occurred on June 17 in San Jose. Details indicate that two people were shot during a robbery, and that one of them died of his injuries.
Detectives from California were dispatched to Carson City early and were expected to follow through on the investigation steps upon arrival.
Sheriff Furlong stated that the proximity of young children remained the area’s greatest concern throughout the morning. However, he was pleased that law enforcement teams were able to devise an effective plan of arrest that minimizes the risks to innocent bystanders, including children.
