One of the Yankees’ late Bullpen picks has just hit the shelf.
Jonathan Loisega, who has become an important leverage option, especially in the wake of Aroldis Chapman’s plight, was put on the COVID-19 list on Saturday. Manager Aaron Boone wouldn’t reveal if Loaisiga tested positive for the virus, had symptoms or had been in close contact – all possible reasons for going to IL – but said it was “day by day.”
“Health and safety protocols. We’ll leave it at that now as it continues,” Boone said before the Yankees game Saturday night in Houston. It feels good.”
Loisega, 2.11 in 36 games, was the ninth inning of Friday’s 4-0 win after Chad Green worked in seventh and eighth. Green has scored the Yankees’ only goalkeeper since Chapman exploded for a third consecutive appearance last Sunday, but was expected to be unavailable on Saturday after throwing two rounds on Friday.
