The Atlanta Falcons have released Parkouris Mingo after the linebacker was arrested in a child sex crime case. The Arlington Police Department told TMZ Sports that Mingo was arrested Thursday, July 8, on one count of obscenity with a child — sexual intercourse. Mingo turned himself in, bail was posted and the 30-year-old was later released. “We have terminated the contract of Parkes Mingo,” the Hawks said in a tweet on Twitter.
TMZ Sports reported that the charge is a second-degree felony, which can carry up to 20 years in prison in Texas if convicted.
The Falcons’ organization said earlier on Saturday: “Our organization has learned of the allegations related to Barcissus Mingo today and is currently collecting information about this incident. The Falcons take the allegations very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation.”
Mingo originally entered the NFL as the No. 6 overall pick for the Cleveland Browns in 2013. More recently, the LSU producer has bounced around the league and made stops with the Patriots, Colts, Seahawks, Texans and Bears. Back in March of this season, he signed a one-year contract to join the Falcons.
