In victory or defeat, Conor McGregor doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere.
The Notorious had to be taken out of the octagon after an ankle injury ended his night early and he lost his three-way match with Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 264 on Saturday. McGregor was still defiant in his post-fight interview, squabbling over the finish line and throwing insults at Poirier and his wife Jolie. On Sunday, he released a brief post that appeared to have lost little faith in his abilities and relevance in the fighting game.
“You need people like me,” McGregor wrote.
McGregor is expected to undergo surgery for his leg injury soon, although there is no timetable for his return yet. UFC President Dana White later said he is open to a fourth fight between Poirier and McGregor due to Saturday’s fight ending due to injury.
In his post-fight interview and at the press conference after UFC 264, Pourier said that McGregor also cheated during the fight. McGregor was accused of grabbing his glove and locking it in place to land during a furious exchange of ground strikes.
McGregor addressed this claim in response to a segment of the sequence posted on Twitter, writing, “Where does the reference go?”
Shortly after Pourier and McGregor split, the two exchanged missed punches and McGregor’s leg came off in an ugly fashion as he backed off from the stock exchange.
