Ronda Rousey pays tribute to Conor McGregor, post-fight interview

Conor McGregor received plenty of heat to meet him after the fight after losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

Ronda Rousey wasn’t one of the people to pile on.

After losing to Poirier (28-6 MMA, 20-5 UFC) in their three-way bout as a result of a broken leg that halted the fight at the end of the first round, McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) stepped on the microphone during his post-fight interview With Joe Rogan unleashed a fierce verbal rhetoric.

“It’s not over” with Poirier after losing the rubber bout, McGregor said, then said some personal words to Poirier’s wife, Julie. He’s received so much backlash for how he’s doing himself, that even UFC president Dana White said his comments were off limits.

Rousey (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC), the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion whose rise to stardom was largely parallel to McGregor, offered a different look at the controversial moment (via Twitter):

I’m amazed that once you hit the ground running, you’re already promoting the next fight TheNotoriousMMA – I had no brain to do it. Other fighters, UFC and the media are lucky to have you.

McGregor suffered a broken leg in the final seconds of the opening round of the UFC 264 main event, which was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He will undergo surgery, and the timeline for his possible return is unknown.

Meanwhile, Rousey has not competed in MMA since losing to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December 2016. After leaving the promotion, she pursued a career in professional wrestling with WWE. Recently, Rousey announced that she is pregnant with the first child between her and her husband Travis Brown, a former UFC heavyweight.
