Susan Douglas honored by our organization for special memorial service

Susan Douglas received an honorary invitation from a sorority that she has always championed and helped lead for over a decade.

Beverly Smith, National President and CEO of Delta Sigma Theta, told TMZ… The 108-year-old organization is already planning a special memorial party to honor the recently passed veteran stage and television actress.

We’re told that the service Susan gets is called the Omega Omega Service…and it’s a last rite of passage and a farewell service for the club sisters. The organization, btw, is a historically black women’s organization whose prominent members include former Barack Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

While most members hold their Omega omega service locally… we’re told Susan’s service will be a nationwide celebration of her life and similar to her memorials to Aretha Franklin and Cecily Tyson.

National presidents and former club leaders will be present. It will be open to the public…although the establishment is still trying to figure out where the event will take place.

For those who can’t do that, we’re told there will be a live stream. Cicely’s live broadcast has attracted over 30,000 viewers.

Sorority obviously means a lot to Susan. She was inducted into honorary membership in 2004 and served as honorary co-chair of the National Commission on the Arts and Letters from 2013 to 2017. She has been active in local, regional, and national initiatives since its inception.

As we reported… Susan – best known as the mother on the WB sitcom “The Parent ‘Hood” and most recently appearing on the Netflix series “When They See Us” – has died of complications from cancer.

She was 64 years old.
