In April, Fox News Media filed a response to a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit by voting machine company Smartmatic that was brought against it for spreading Trump’s false election allegations, saying it should be dismissed.
“The press does not lose its protection if allegations are disproved; instead, reports are part of the process of seeking the truth,” Fox New Media argued in its response to the lawsuit from Smartmatic. Which is why almost every media outlet in the country has covered the president’s allegations of election fraud without fear of being sued if they are refuted in court. Smartmatic’s efforts to undermine those basic constitutional protections are dangerous and must be rejected.”
Fox did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the disclaimer displayed during Trump’s speech on Sunday.

On Sunday, Trump issued a statement attacking the mainstream press in general.
“I am proud to inform you that Lamestream Media has reached the lowest approval rates ever recorded,” Trump said in a statement Sunday. “I think it would be fair to assume I had something to do with that.”
