CBS and the Television Academy announced Monday that Cedric the Entertainer will begin his Emmys-hosting show in September as the big show returns to an in-person live format. According to a press release, there will be a “limited audience of candidates and their guests.”
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, held in September 2020, were held virtually, with the winners giving their speeches via video chat.
“Since I was a little kid huddled next to my grandmother, TV has always been my trusted friend, so I am honored to be hosting this year’s Emmy Awards,” Cedric the Entertainer said in a statement. “Throughout the year we’ve all lived, television has helped us stay connected as a community like never before. Not only has we been delighted, but as it has always done, it has helped us open our eyes, educate us, and hopefully achieve a better understanding of who we are as a people. I can’t wait to take the stage to celebrate all Great shows and performances that have made us laugh, cry, dance and sing over the past year.”
Cedric the Entertainer stars and executive producers in the CBS comedy “Neighbourhood.”
The event will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 19.
Nominations are due to be announced Tuesday morning.
