If you’re a fan of Samsung’s phablet-sized Galaxy Note, you can rest assured knowing that at least the companion stylus will still be available for other devices. Samsung’s most tablet-like phone may not appear this summer at the company’s upcoming Unpacked event, but an FCC filing suggests its best accessories will be.

The S Pen Pro, which Samsung announced at the beginning of the year, is ostensibly a stylus-like variant of the S Pen rather than a small stylus docked at the side of the device. The S Pen Pro is expected to work with the unannounced Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is rumored to be the next model in Samsung’s foldable lineup.

The FCC listing includes a copy of what is supposed to be the S Pen Pro’s exterior label. This indicates that the stylus will be compatible with any Samsung smartphone, tablet or PC that already supports the S Pen. Air Actions, which let you move the stylus like a stick to take photos and program other shortcuts, will only be available on devices that support One UI 3.1 or later.

Samsung aims to expand by utilizing its most powerful weapon: peripherals. The ability to buy the stylus off the shelf and play it with any Samsung device gives the company’s products even more appeal, especially for Android users. For comparison, the current Google-supported products are either third-party or via a convertible laptop via Chrome OS. And the Apple Pencil only works with iPads, not iPhones.

It’s also not surprising that it coincides with Samsung’s launch of its next foldable product. The company was one of the first to come out of the gate in the US to bring foldable smartphones at a level that consumers can access. However, they still have to sell the rest of us on the benefit. Why not sell a supplement along with the ideal use case? The Galaxy Z Fold is, after all, a smartphone that opens into a tablet. This basically integrates the Galaxy Note smartphone and the Galaxy Tab S tablet.

Samsung has made no secret of its plans to expand S Pen support beyond the Note smartphone. We expect to hear more at the upcoming Unpacked event. The date is still not announced, although some rumors have indicated that it will happen on August 11th. We expect to see at least one new smartphone from Samsung, as well as more details on how the company will build on the Google Wear OS smartwatch platform with a twist. We may see upgraded accessories like the Galaxy Buds and maybe even a new tablet for the new S Pen Pro show.
