Apple’s latest MagSafe accessory is the $99 iPhone 12 battery pack

[ad_1]

Apple has quietly started selling the MagSafe Battery Pack for its iPhone 12 lineup. Spotted by 9to5Mac, the new accessory costs $99, with deliveries starting early next week. Instead of the case you put on your iPhone, this latest battery pack attaches to the back of your device.

The accessory is available in one size featuring a 1460mAh battery, which means that no model in the entire iPhone 12 family can be changed. When you use the battery pack on the go, it will charge your phone by about 5W. Plugging it into a power adapter while it’s still connected to your iPhone will increase this speed to about 15W. Either way, it’s not the quickest way to pack an iPhone 12, but it should still help in the decisiveness.

According to the official support document, you need iOS 14.7 to use the battery pack. Apple has not yet released this update. The company also recommends using a 20W or higher USB-C power adapter and a USB-C to Lightning cable to charge the device.

When it’s plugged into your iPhone, you’ll see how much power you have left to give on the Battery widget that you can add to your home screen and Today view. Interestingly, Apple also notes that you may receive a notification from your device that the accessory will not charge past 90 percent. You can bypass this enable limit with Low Power Mode through Control Center.

Apple isn’t the first company to offer a battery pack that’s magnetically attached to the iPhone 12 and its siblings. However, after Amazon removed many of the most popular brands from its market earlier in the year, it has been difficult to find them. And if you visit the website now, you will find that many of the battery packs listed have no estimated availability.
