Elon Musk’s testimony in Tesla lawsuit is paused while attorney vomits in jury box

Elon Musk’s testimony in a trial over his electric car company, Tesla, was interrupted when a lawyer vomited in the courtroom, causing the trial to pause.

The civil lawsuit relates to Tesla’s $2.6 billion merger with SolarCity.

The lawyer was sitting in the jury box when they vomited, interrupting Mr. Musk’s testimony and wider proceedings for two hours while the staff cleaned the area.

The lawsuit alleges that Musk forced Tesla’s managers to bail out the troubled solar energy company, then set the prices at which the company would produce its panels. At the time of the deal, Musk owned 22 percent of the shares of SolarCity and Tesla.

Musk has denied the allegations against him and appeared to take the allegations personally, criticizing lawyers representing the plaintiffs in the case.

“Your questions are very deceptive,” he said from the witness stand during interrogation.

In a previous exchange, Musk called the opposing attorney a “bad human being.”

The lawsuit against Mr. Musk was brought by a union pension fund and asset managers. The Tesla shareholders behind the lawsuit want Mr. Musk to return the value of the SolarCity deal to Tesla, which could lead to one of the largest personal judgments ever if the plaintiffs succeed.

Musk was pressured into trial over a set of notes made by a financial advisor indicating that he offered the board of directors a $28.50 share price of SolarCity, contradicting his claim that he stepped down from negotiations to buy the troubled company.

He claimed he was just stating that any publicly untenable share price from SolarCity would be rejected.

Musk maintains he had no “material role” in directing Tesla’s board of directors to acquire SolarCity.

“Since it was a stock-for-share transaction, and I owned roughly the same percentage of both, there was no financial gain,” he said during his testimony.

Mr. Musk’s interest in SolarCity was part of his plan to provide more sustainable energy solutions in the production of Tesla cars.

Despite claims that Mr. Musk had armed his board of directors forcefully to accept the deal, he claimed to have a “good” relationship with the board of directors and described them as hard-working.

Legal experts believe lawyers representing the plaintiffs will try to uncover evidence that Mr. Musk forced his board to bend to his will.
