Brooks Koepka spoke about the origins of his feud with fellow golfer Bryson DeChambeau while speaking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon, days before the British Open kicks off.

Back in August of 2019 during the Liberty National, Koepka cart Ricky Elliott was on the golf course when Dechambeau passed by and saw him talking to two reporters, one of whom was asking him questions about being criticized for slow play.

DeChambeau tells Elliot to tell Koepka if there are any problems, he should speak to him directly. Soon after, Koepka confronted DeChambeau and talked to him about what was bothering him.

“I thought that was ridiculous because he went straight to Ricky,” Kupka said on Tuesday. “Ricky told me when I got out, I hit a few hits, and I went straight to him, we had a conversation.”

He continued, “We both agreed we’d leave each other and we wouldn’t mention each other, just kind of let it die, and he wouldn’t mention each other’s names, just do it. Then he decided, I think he’s been playing this little pot, whatever it is, playing video games via The internet or whatever, and he called my name and said a few things, so now it’s fair game.”

While DeChambeau was playing a video game during a live broadcast, he mocked Koepka for not having any abs after he was on a photo shoot for ESPN’s “Body Issue.”

The British Open, the last major tournament of the year, is scheduled to start on Thursday. The Ryder Cup will take place from September 24 to September 24. 26 in Whistling Streets. Koepka and DeChambeau likely won’t be partners during the event, but DeChambeau said he wouldn’t care if they were.

“I think it would be kind of funny actually,” DeChambeau said. “I think we’re going to do well, frankly. It will create an interesting atmosphere for the team or for the players we’re playing against.”
