The House Select Committee announced Wednesday that it will hold its first hearing on July 27 to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.
The panel will consist of eight Democrats and five Republicans who will investigate and report on what happened on January 6.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced committee members, including Wyoming Republican Representative Liz Cheney, who opposed the Republican Party and criticized Donald Trump for his alleged role in the run-up to the attack.

Cheney was also only one of two Republicans to vote in favor of the committee’s investigation into the attack, after stalling impeded the creation of an independent bipartisan committee in May by Senate Republicans.

House Democrats Adam B. Chef from California, Jimmy Raskin from Maryland, Zoe Lofgren from California, Pete Aguilar from California, Ellen Luria from Virginia, and Stephanie Murphy from Florida — a group that has frustrated the House minority leader. Kevin McCarthy.

In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, he said, “The situation of Adam Schiff and Raskin on it looks more like an impeachment committee than a committee that wants to get to the heart of the questions that remain.”
Schiff led the trial of Donald Trump during his first trial in 2019, while Raskin ran the proceedings during the second trial after the attack on the Capitol.
“I haven’t made a decision yet, even for the appointment,” McCarthy said. “I’m discussing it with my members. I have a real concern, the scope of what we’re looking at.”
