They are portrayed as heroes for surreptitiously leaving their countries.
If there’s a story — well, one that has nothing to do with Trump — that exemplifies how the political press takes sides, it’s the spectacle of Texas Democratic lawmakers blocking action by getting her out of the Lone Star state.
Now you might think these Democrats are yellow cowards, or you might think they’re taking a principled stand to prevent the Republican Party from passing what they see as a devastating set of voting restrictions. This is a legitimate topic for discussion.
But Republicans have the votes to push the measure, so Democrats are denying them a quorum, for now, by refusing to attend.
In other words, they are thwarting the democratic process while telling the world that they are trying to save democracy.
Why is the media elite, taken over by the left, splitting from both sides
Imagine, for a moment, that Republicans in a liberal state like New York left the state en masse to prevent Democrats from enacting a strong voting rights law. Wouldn’t they be portrayed as sweaty? Wouldn’t their tactics be called desperation? Wouldn’t their approach be dismissed as foul play?
Instead, the Washington Post published this headline yesterday: “Inside the Secret Plan to Exodus Texas Democrats: A Telephone Tree, a Packet Scramble, and a Politically Perilous Journey.”
I mean, the newspaper made it sound like a commando on a secret CIA mission.
Here’s the introduction: “They activated the plan with a phone tree late Sunday: Pack your bags—and make sure it weighs no more than 45 pounds. Get ready to leave Austin at noon tomorrow. We’ll tell you where we’re going.”
Their goal: “To prevent what they described as a complete assault on democracy means to make it more difficult for people who tend to vote for Democrats to cast their ballots. It was just a matter of when.”
The day before, The New York Times: Texas Democrats Flee State To Highlight GOP Voting Restrictions,
“The hastily arranged departure added a cinematic element to the partisan debate in a country with a colorful political history,” he added.
newspaper declares Biden boring; Washington has never felt heavy
Again, I don’t think dissident Republicans will be welcomed for bringing Hollywood entertainment to a “colorful” state. Coverage will be similar to suppressing people of color.
Not that there is no bone on either side. Will Governor Greg Abbott and his Republicans really carry out their threat to arrest the Democrats? Will the Democrats, who met with Kamala Harris yesterday, really stay in D.C. until the August 7 special session ends? As the Texas Tribune expressed, “On the face of it, it’s ridiculous for everyone except the politicians themselves. In any other workplace, this kind of manufactured drama and tension would be so ominous.”
However, runaway Democrats get sympathetic interviews on CNN and MSNBC and are outlined regarding their transportation (from a flight attendant to a pressure officer at Dallas airport to a lawmaker who packed his family into a jeep for a 23-hour drive.
The melodrama was set in Texas against the backdrop of President Joe Biden’s impassioned speech over his party’s voting rights legislation. However, an astonishing number of Democrats and liberal commentators say that rhetoric about Jim Crow and the Big Lie does nothing to break Hill’s deadlock. “Biden hasn’t done much in the way of the plan,” MSNBC’s Joy Reed said.

Coverage here is also sympathetic to the Democratic side, except for Biden’s failure to adopt a stall lift to beat a bill for the people sweeping 50 votes in the Senate. This means that Democrats will change the rules to achieve their end, which is a good thing, from this point of view, because procrastination is anti-democratic (except when they are in the minority and use it aggressively).
But this political science controversy doesn’t matter, because Biden doesn’t have 50 votes to suspend disruption, thanks to Senator Joe Manchin, Deutsche Welle. Virginia, and Christine Sinema, D-Ariz.
So with their way so tightly closed, Hill Democrats will have plenty of time to shoot with their fellow Texas visitors.
