Former NFL ex-NFL Richard Sherman was released without bail on Thursday.

King County District Court Judge Fa’amomoi Masaniai found probable cause for Sherman’s perpetration of criminal trespass, malicious mischief, driving under the influence and resisting arrest. He was initially booked into a felony residential burglary. Judge Sherman ordered that he not be allowed to contact his father-in-law and could not use alcohol or nonprescription drugs.

“I love and support my husband,” Sherman’s wife, Ashley Sherman, said in a statement after the hearing. “I am committed to helping Richard get the support and care he needs. Richard has always been a loving father and husband. We look forward to seeing him back home with his family.”

Sherman was investigated in two incidents that occurred in the early hours of the morning of July 14. State Police received a report of a disabled driver at approximately 1:26 am.

The driver of the car, registered as Sherman, crashed into a construction site somewhere along Highway 520 before taking off. The damaged vehicle was found less than a mile away, abandoned.

Redmond Police received another call before 2am about a burglary in progress. Redmond Police Chief Daryl Lowe said at a news conference on Wednesday that police approached Sherman outside the house and spoke for 10 minutes before informing him that he would be arrested, at which point he tried to leave.

Lowe said a police dog was used to help arrest him, and Sherman sustained an injury to his lower leg as a result. He pointed out that the front door of the house was badly damaged.

Lowe also explained that the burglary charge of domestic violence was due to Sherman’s relationship with the landlords – and his in-laws – and not because of “violence against any significant other family member”.

A 911 call obtained by KIRO revealed disturbing details that led to Sherman’s arrest.

Ashley makes the call, and can be heard telling the dispatcher that her husband is “drunk” and has threatened suicide. She noted that he was “aggressive” and that he became “physical” with a loved one.

Police said Richard Sherman’s father pepper-sprayed him during the contrast

Ashley, concerned for Sherman’s safety, told the dispatcher that he was not armed. She also said he had consumed two bottles of liquor.

Sherman’s father-in-law, Raymond Moss, appeared to have a handgun and pepper spray the former All Pro’s back corner, according to a police report released Thursday.

Moss was trying to protect his family while Sherman was trying to break the door to enter his parents’ house. Moss told investigators that the NFL star partially broke the door by repeatedly hitting him in the shoulder.

Moss said Sherman yelled, “Come on, Ray!” In a threatening tone of voice.

“The family started screaming in fear,” Moss told police officers. “I applied pepper spray to Sherman’s face through the partially open door where he was still banging and trying to get in. I told him to stop. I armed myself with my pistol at this time out of fear for my safety and that of my family.”

The National Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a statement on Wednesday saying it was aware of the arrest.

“We learned of the arrest of one of our player leaders last night for an alleged domestic violence incident and have activated the Domestic Violence Crisis Protocol to protect and support all concerned,” the statement posted on Twitter read. “We will continue to monitor events closely as more facts are provided to us,” he added.
