Magnitude 3.4 earthquake strikes Assam

An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 struck several districts in Assam state on Friday morning, an official bulletin said.

She added that there were no immediate reports of loss of life or damage to property.

The National Center of Seismology said the quake occurred at 8.39 am and was centered in Nagun, central Assam.

She said the depth of the quake was 10 km.

According to the bulletin, the place of occurrence was 40 km west of Tezpur on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River.

Panicked people fled their homes as the earthquake hit the state.

The northeastern states are located in the high seismic zone and earthquakes strike the region frequently.

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake shook the region on April 28.
