At the second season premiere of his Apple TV comedy “Ted Lasso,” Sudeikis showed his support for Saka, Sancho and Rashford by donning a black first-name shirt to the players up front.

Sudeikis co-wrote and stars in the comedy show, which features a young football coach who is hired to coach a professional football team in England – despite having no experience in the sport.

The actor earned a Tuesday Emmy nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for the series, which debuted on Apple TV+ in August 2020.

Popular NBC TV host Roger Bennett tweeted: “Big love for sweatshirt Jason Sudeikis on season 2 of Ted Lasso tonight. Shows that like his character, he really knows that at his heart football is all about human good.” and the podcast “Men in Blazers”.

Online racist abuse

Before and during Euro 2020, England’s players knelt before each of their matches in a show of unity in the fight against racism and inequality.

This angered sections of the England fan base, and some fans booed when the players knelt.

And after Sunday’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy, players were subjected to online racist abuse, which team manager Gareth Southgate called “unforgivable”.

London’s Metropolitan Police said it was investigating “unacceptable” social media comments on both Instagram and Twitter, while British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also condemned racist abuse.

Striker Rashford has consistently highlighted the racist abuse he has been subjected to throughout his career.

“I grew up in a sport where I expect to read things written about myself. Whether it’s the color of my skin, where I’ve been raised, or recently how I decided to spend my time off the court,” Rashford posted on Twitter on Monday.

Rashford, who missed a penalty in the last game, wrote that he could take “cash for my performance all day, the penalty wasn’t good enough, it should have gone in, but I’ll never apologize for who I am and where I come from.”

In the hours following England’s defeat by Italy, a mural honoring Rashford was vandalized with graffiti in Manchester, UK.

The artwork commemorates the Manchester United player’s work tackling child food poverty. It includes the quote: “Be proud of knowing that your struggle will play the biggest role in your goal.”

Greater Manchester Police said on Thursday: “While the vandalism content is not believed to be of a racist nature, officers are looking forward to a motive behind the defamation of the artwork,” adding that it has since been recovered.
