An initial 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck just before 11:50 p.m. Saturday near Petrolia in Humboldt County, according to the US Geological Survey.
Its epicenter was 22 miles southwest of Ferndale, 28 miles south-south-west of Eureka and 26.9 miles southwest of Fortuna.
No other details were released.
