Pittsburgh Pirates 3 runs slammed bizarre mistake by New York Mets pitcher Taiguan Walker

Pittsburgh – Now this Bucco Bizarro was at its best.

The Pittsburgh Pirates made a pass three times on Sunday when New York Mets’ Taijuan Walker fired a fair shot into a dirt zone, sparking a heated controversy in which Mets coach Luis Rojas was sent off.

With bases loaded and one takeout in the first inning, Kevin Newman hit the dodger down the third base line. The ball started in a foul area but then started to spin backwards toward the line.

Walker pounced on the ball and hit it, trying to make contact while it was still on sloppy ground. But television replays showed the ball was touching chalk when Walker hit it, and board referee Jeremy Riggs correctly described it as a fair ball.

The ball rolled toward the pirate’s lair and the Mets didn’t react to get it back, and all three runners ran out of Pittsburgh and went back to score.

Rojas immediately ran to argue the call and was quickly dismissed. Walker was accused of a play error, while Newman was credited with one and one RBI.

Walker, on his first outing since Tuesday night’s All-Star Game, then walked the pitcher GT Brubaker and was pulled from the bout. Six four-strokes and four walks were allowed while only one exit was scored.
