With Tokyo expecting temperatures in excess of 90 degrees, Team USA flag bearers will wear special jackets designed with cooling systems at the Olympic and Paralympic opening ceremonies.
Ralph Lauren unveiled the costume for the show last week, including a white denim jacket that will feature “RL wearable cooling technology,” according to a statement from the company. This technology is a “self-regulating temperature cooler” built into the jackets that disperses heat and cools body temperature.
In 2018, the clothing brand used similar technology for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, creating warm jackets for the cold temperatures of South Korea.

“Recognizing the summer heat in Tokyo, we sought to develop a solution for Team USA that combines fashion and function – allowing them to look and feel their best in one of the largest theaters in the world,” said Ralph Lauren’s statement.
Team USA’s Parade uniform will also include a dark blue cardigan, coordinating shoes, cotton visors, and striped belts.
Ralph Lauren has been the Official Supplier of Team USA since 2008. The Team USA flag holders have not yet been announced. The opening ceremony will have fewer athletes and no fans.
