White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris has tested negative for COVID-19 after meeting with several Texas House of Representatives Democratic lawmakers who recently contracted the virus.
“I believe the vice president’s office reported that she was tested and no COVID-19 detected,” Psaki said. “They have also put in some specific details about their proximity to individuals who have also tested positive. We take these precautions incredibly seriously and adhere to the guidelines of our assistance and medical experts.”
Five Texas House of Representatives Democrats who traveled to Washington, D.C., have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days. Harris met with Texas Representatives last Tuesday.
When asked if the White House was disappointed that lawmakers did not wear masks on board their flight to the nation’s capital, Psaki refused to respond directly.

“I don’t think I would be in a position here to assess what safety precautions they might or might not take. Those individuals were clearly out there trying to make the issue of individual suffrage,” Psaki said.
“What’s important for everyone to know is that the vice president has been tested,” she added. “She of course takes these precautions very seriously and we will follow any advice our public health officials give us.”
Psaki said “no extra precautions” were taken to separate Harris from President Biden after her meeting with lawmakers.
Harris went to Walter Reed Medical Center on Sunday for what her office described as a routine doctor’s appointment. Officials said Harris has not been in close contact with the infected lawmakers and will not need to be quarantined.

Psaki told reporters that Harris’ appointment had already been scheduled before the meeting.
“It was a scheduled visit for several weeks, long before the Texas legislators visited, a routine appointment she had scheduled again several weeks ago,” Psaki said.
