Valve caused quite a stir last week when it revealed its Steam Deck laptop, allowing you to take your Steam library on the go. It’s not the only device in the headlines lately, as Nintendo has also announced a new Nintendo Switch model with an OLED display.
Both devices are relatively close in price ($400 for the Steam Deck and $350 for the OLED adapter), and that got us wondering which one you’d actually buy. Here’s how you voted in this poll.
Would you buy a Nintendo Switch OLED or Steam Deck?
consequences
We published the poll on Friday, July 16, and more than 2,700 votes have been counted as of writing. And the winner was Steam Deck by landslide, with more than three-quarters of respondents saying they would buy Valve’s upcoming handheld OLED Switch.
Reviews indicate that there are some major reasons why users choose the handheld computer. These reasons include having your existing PC game library instead of creating a new one from scratch and an old Switch internals. We can also see the PC-based nature too attractive to some compared to the locked-down Nintendo ecosystem.

Just under a quarter of respondents (23.5%) said they would get a Nintendo Switch OLED instead. None of the reviews reflected this poll option, but we’re guessing the cheaper price, some killer exclusives (like Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Breath of the Wild, etc.), and an OLED panel are reasons to pick up the Nintendo handheld.
However, it doesn’t seem like you can go wrong with either option if you want a high-quality mobile gaming experience.
Tennisfreak’s Comments: I’ve already placed my pre-order on Steam Deck. Mid-range model with 256 GB storage. Not paying $400 for ages 4 and up. Alex: Well, Steam Deck is an interesting concept but it’s not in the same market as the Switch. The Steam deck has a lot of titles, all designed for PC and most of them are made with little regard for consoles because no PC player uses a console. I’ll really be waiting to see if this concept gains traction. If I were on Steam, I would make a separate batch of Steam Deck certified games and the certification process, to ensure a smooth deck experience. Sean Hamm: I’ll buy the steam deck over the switch. I have a Steam library of more than 200 games. Why start over? Joe Black: How about both? Shizuma: Steam Deck Without even a second thought, I actually have a switch and the idea of screen burn-in and possibly worse image quality due to what is likely a penta display for $50 more than my old switch isn’t remotely convincing. TheLastBattalion: As someone with a switch, Steam Deck is clearly a better package overall. It offers everything Nintendo fans want from a Switch “Pro” model and even beyond.
