Sources – Aaron Rodgers rejected the Green Bay Packers extension offer that would have made him the highest-paid QB

Aaron Rodgers has rejected a two-year extension offer from the Green Bay Packers this off-season, sources Adam Shifter of ESPN have reported.

Sources said the deal would have tied the Packers Player of the Year award for five more seasons and would have made him the highest-paid player in football.

Shifter’s sources told in April that Rodgers did not want to return to the team due to issues he had with management. Despite his position, Al Hazmoun remained adamant that they would not trade in the three-time best player.

Since then, Rodgers has failed to attend volunteer travel agencies for the first time in his career. The training camp is scheduled to begin on July 28.

Rodgers, 37, said one of his problems with the team is that general manager Brian Gutkunst failed to give him advance notice that the team would trade in quarterback Jordan Love’s project in 2020.

“With my situation, look, it was never about recruiting choice, Jordan picking,” Rodgers said on SportsCenter in May. “I love Jordan, he’s a great kid. [We’ve had] So much fun to work together. I love the coaching staff, I love my teammates, and I love the Green Bay fan base. 16 years is incredible. It’s just kind of a philosophy and we might forget that it’s about the people who make it easy. It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”

Despite being away from the Packers, Rodgers has been busy this season, including appearing as a guest host on “Jeopardy!” and participating in a golf event dedicated to television alongside Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson and Bryson Dechambeau.

Information from ESPN’s Rob Damofsky was used in this report.
