Officials say a gas leak likely caused the Plano house to explode, one person was found under the rubble of the house and taken to hospital, and five neighbors, including three children, were injured in the blast.
Investigators announced Tuesday morning that a gas leak likely caused a house explosion Monday in Plano, injuring six people.
Police and firefighters were dispatched to the home shortly after 4:40 p.m. after several people called 911 to report an explosion had occurred at a house located on 4,400 blocks of Cleveland Drive and that the house had “completely disappeared.”
The explosion sent debris flying hundreds of meters away while I was shocked one mile away.
Once the first responders arrived, they formed a search group to begin cleaning up the rubble for any survivors. Someone was pulled from the collapsed house and taken to Plano Medicine City. This person’s condition is currently unknown Tuesday.
Five other people, including two adults and three children, live in nearby homes and also required medical treatment after the explosion. Adults were also sent to Medical City Plano while children were sent to Plano Children’s Medical Center. The severity of their injuries is also unknown.
No single resident of a house just east of the destroyed house was injured in the explosion.
“The explosion was likely caused by a gas leak inside the home, but further investigation will be necessary to determine exactly where the gas leak inside the home,” a Plano Fire-Rescue press release stated.
The statement said that the severe damage to the house “will impede these ongoing investigations” but that no other homes are at risk.
Cleaning crews worked all night at the epicenter of the blast.
The statement said Plano Police, ATF and FBI investigators have ruled out the presence of hazardous materials or explosives in the explosion.
