17 Yankees update on injured list plus Chris Gittens | Presented by Luke Voight

Yankees manager Aaron Boone is baffled. He can’t understand what’s going on with his team again.

The surprise wasn’t the Yankees’ injured list, which swelled to 17 players on Tuesday when defensive back Trey Ambergey was added. The rookie was knocked out of his second Big League game last Sunday with a hamstring problem, so half of that bad news was to be expected.

What baffled Boone was DJ LeMahieu getting scratched a few minutes before the start of Tuesday night’s game with the Phillies and having to scramble to find his first baseman as rookie Chris Gittens showed up on the field with a painful Achilles injury that made him available only in an emergency.

Bon’s thoughts at the time?

“What else can you throw at us?”

Boone considered starting catcher Gary Sanchez at first before opting instead for his new spare receiver. Rob Brantley didn’t play a major league game initially, but he has made three top-flight games there this season.

It worked. Brantley contributed two goals to his first major league success since 2017 (and 90th place overall), handling his first base fine other than not making a scoop on a bad throw by Gleyber Torres that was scored on the field and the Yankees finished with a score of 6. 4 winners.

After that, Boone said he was optimistic about making LeMahieu available for Wednesday’s game while unsure of Gittens, whom Achilles “really annoyed”.

Here’s the latest news on the 17 Yankees who are in IL:
