It’s a Dunn Deal: Seattle Picks Defender of the Blues in Expansion Project | St. Louis Blues

Finally, Seattle took 15 forwards, 12 defenses, and three goalkeepers.

Although he is only 24 years old, Dunn is among the most experienced of the D-11 men. Only Giordano (949), Larson (603) and Oleksak (369) have played more regular season games than Dan’s 267.

Only Giordano (22:40), Larson (20:42) and Chulovsky (18:14) have more ice time per game than Dan’s 17 minutes 23 seconds. Cholowski has played only 104 NHL games.

Perhaps most important is Dan’s insult to the Kraken. He has more career goals (32) than any of the eleven defenders other than Giordano. He and Giordano are the only ones to have scored 10 or more goals in a single season.

As a restricted free agent, Kraken only owns the rights to Dunn for the upcoming season unless they reach an agreement on a multi-year deal. He made $1.875 million this past season and is eligible to judge.

“That would be the plan,” Kraken general manager Ron Francis said in response to a question about acquiring Den under a long-term contract.

“He’s a young defensive player. We think he has some good offensive upside, so we’re looking forward to getting the chance to work with Vince and help develop his game. Hopefully he’ll be a big part of our future.”

With the exception of a multi-year deal, other teams will be able to bid on Dunn this off-season, but Seattle has matching rights and plenty of salary cap room to do so.
