Hopkins’ tweet came on the heels of an NFL memo that described the repercussions of teams affected by the Covid-19 outbreak during the 2021 season that destroyed entire center groups or rosters. The NFL said a deferred game loss will be declared that cannot be rescheduled within the framework of 18 games of the season and results from an outbreak among non-vaccinated players on one team. In addition, in the event of a loss, players on both teams will lose the game tests.

Hopkins was one of the biggest names to publicly respond to the new NFL policy, but others were involved.

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey responded to well-known quarterback Quincy Avery, who tweeted, “Dave is a bad teammate if you don’t get Vax now…” by tweeting that he knows two people who have been vaccinated and tested positive. COVID and that “a teammate wouldn’t be seen as bad if he didn’t get a vax, nor a 5 pressure.”

I know two people at the moment who got vaccinated but have coronavirus.. I’m just saying. I wouldn’t look at a teammate as bad if he didn’t get vax, no pressure from 5️⃣ https://t.co/OGTbKJ1A6Z

Hopkins responded to Ramsey’s tweets by tweeting that his girlfriend’s brother, who is in the military, started having heart problems after receiving the vaccine. He later deleted that tweet.

At the Dallas Cowboys boot camp in Oxnard, California, Ezekiel Elliott said he received a COVID-19 vaccine but doesn’t think the decision should be imposed on others.

“I only got vaccinated because I wanted to put myself in the best position to be there for a week on my team. But I mean, not everyone feels strong or maybe other people still have their own view on vaccines,” said Elliott, who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Last summer, “A person cannot be forced to do something they do not want to do with their body.”

Elliott said he grew up in a family where “we didn’t get the vaccines, so it’s kind of hard to tell someone their whole life, their mom, their dad telling them not to get vaccinated. So I mean it’s everyone’s body. I can’t tell them what to do with it. So I mean It’s kind of sensitive. You can’t go tell someone.”

Jim Irsai, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, said Thursday that more than 50% of the crew have been vaccinated, and that the team is “hopefully heading towards 100%.”

“[Getting vaccinated] “It makes perfect sense,” said Irsay. “There are always risks in everything in life, and vaccination is the right thing to do.”

New England Patriots quarterback Matt Godon expressed his frustration with the new NFL policy with a tweet that said: “The NFLPA F team – DISGUST.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette indicated in a tweet that he wouldn’t get vaccinated, writing, “Vaccine I can’t do that…” He later deleted the tweet.

Galen Richards encouraged unarmed Las Vegas players to “read the rules as you know your plays” in a tweet. He added, “We are playing in prison this year and you have to act accordingly.”

ESPN’s Todd Archer contributed to this report.
