A member of the Hillsong Giant Church who mocked the Covid-19 vaccine on social media has died after contracting the virus.

Stephen Harmon, 34, died at Corona Regional Medical Center in Los Angeles, on Wednesday.

His death was announced by Brian Houston, founder of Hillsong, who said he had just heard “the devastating news that our beloved friend Stephen Harmon has passed away from Covid. It is heartbreaking.”

Mr. Harmon was hospitalized last month with Covid and pneumonia.

In his final days, he shared shocking details about his fight for survival.

“Please pray, they really want to tube me and put me on a ventilator,” he said on Sunday.

“Even the slightest movement my heart rate rises and my dependence on oxygen increases. And please, I’m not asking anyone’s opinion on intubation, I’ll choose for myself, I’m asking for prayer.”

He told how he had a severely elevated heart rate, panic attacks, and a risk of unconsciousness and intubation.

He wrote, “If you have no faith that God can cure me of a stupid ventilator, and then keep Hell out of my ICU, there is no place here for fear or lack of faith.”

In his last tweet on Wednesday, Mr. Harmon tweeted that he had decided to undergo intubation.

“I struggled with this thing as hard as I could but unfortunately it got to the point of critical choice and as much as I hate having to do it, I’d rather be prepared than a forced emergency action.”

Before he got sick, Mr. Harmon was an outspoken opponent of Covid vaccines, and joked that he would never get one.

“If you’re having issues with email, I feel bad for you, son. He wrote on June 3.

Cases of Covid-19 are increasing across the United States at alarming levels, fueled by the delta variable.

The seven-day average circulation was 40,246 Thursday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an increase of 46.7% from the previous week.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walinsky said that more than 97% of current hospital admissions for Covid are for people who are not immune.

“There is a clear message coming: This has become an epidemic of the unvaccinated,” Dr. Walinsky said.

The Biden administration narrowly missed its goal of getting 70 percent of adults to receive at least one dose of a vaccine by July 4th.

Centers for Disease Control data shows that 68.6 percent of the population age 18 or older has had at least one shot.
