Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams post ‘The Last Dance’ on Instagram

Davante Adams has thoughts about his situation with the Green Bay Packers and wants the world to know. On Friday, following news that the All-Pro receiver was no longer in talks with the Packers regarding a contract extension, the four-time Pro Bowler posted a post on Instagram that appeared to hint at ESPN’s documentary The Last Dance. Soon after, quarterback Aaron Rodgers joined by posting the same photo.

The 1997-1998 documentary covered the Chicago Bulls during their “last dance” as team general manager Jerry Krause plans to rebuild the team in a post-dynasty image the following season. If you want to read heavy metaphor, Adams and Rogers seem to claim that this will be their last year in Green Bay.

Adams, the 2022 free agent who apparently wants to be paid like the best player in his position in the league, has already stated that he will not hesitate due to the NFL’s fines system under the 2020 collective bargaining agreement, which has successfully avoided anyone waiting at the level League for property and front-office last season under the new fines system, veterans can be fined $50,000 a day for standing up, with the caveat that fines are no longer reversible at the team level and are now mandatory functional fines.

Rodgers, who was too shy to talk to him about his frustration with the team in public over the game’s top player who had reports claiming to have completely finished the franchise, appears to be following suit with Adams. Ultimately, career frustration can only be leveraged significantly against financial frustration under the league’s new rules.

The NFL owners may have earned the right to walk away from the bargaining table by winning the collective bargaining, but the result is that players are likely to fit in with teams they believe no longer have a long-term future. In some ways, the Packers have become a test case for the functionality of how the new collective bargaining agreement’s anti-rejection policies play out realistically in a world where NFL athletes see player empowerment in other sports and leagues.
