The Archdiocese of Manila on Saturday issued a prayer asking God to protect God from the danger posed by the powerful earthquake and severe floods caused by the monsoon rains in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

Church-run Radio Veritas reported that Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula also prayed to the Lord for better weather conditions and eliminating the threat of earthquakes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

At approximately 4:49 am, a 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck Calatagan, Batangas, and was felt in the provinces of Mindoro and the National Capital Region, Bulacan and Cavite.

Apart from the earthquake, many areas in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces, as well as Mindoro, Romblon and Marinduque provinces, were also inundated by incessant rains caused by the southwest monsoon boosted by Typhoon Fabian.

The Bishop of Kidapawan Jose Colin Bagafuro also offered prayers for Filipinos in connection with the series of disasters in the country.

“May you accompany us on our journey and give us the courage to face with full hope your will and obey your commandments and days for us. We worship and praise your holy name, and save us from the disaster and suffering of our people from epidemics, heavy rains and storms,” he said in an interview on church radio.

Bajavur, who is also president of Caritas Philippines, the church’s social work arm, said they are preparing to respond to the needs of potential victims of the disaster.

“Our humanitarian department has been in touch 24/7 for three days in all the social work centers of the diocese. He said that all the social work centers in the affected parishes are on high alert and we are ready if they need help. (Palestine National Authority)
