Sansad TV, which replaces the existing TV channels, Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV, will be introduced on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The integrated platform was conceived almost two years ago after a panel led by Prasar Bharati CEO Surya Prakash submitted a report approving a common platform for the two channels.
The Hindustan Times first reported the launch on August 4th.
Sansad TV will have two channels to ensure live streaming of both Houses when Parliament is in session. A Rajya Sabha official who asked not to be named said: Preparations for the channels are done and it is ready to launch. Authorities are waiting an hour from the PM to launch the new channels.
Officials said the establishment of Rajya Sabha TV is running from a rented property adjacent to the Talkatora stadium that will be integrated into the infrastructure of LSTVs to create the new entity.
Former textile secretary Ravi Kapoor has been appointed CEO of the new entity on the contract for a year, an internal order by the Lok Sabha secretary said. During the break, the channels will run current English and Hindi communication programs.
