NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday slammed the opposition parties for continuing to disrupt the monsoon session of Parliament.

“We have never seen such directionless opposition,” the PM said while addressing a meeting of BJP MPs on Tuesday.
PM Waystook a dig at the opposition alliance INDIA, drawing parallels with notable names like the East India Company and the Popular Front of India.

He emphasized that the mere use of the country’s name is not enough to mislead people.

Setting the stage for a direct fight with the BJP-led NDA in next year’s Lok Sabha polls, a gathering of 26 parties in Bengaluru last week decided to name the opposition bloc as INDIA-standing for the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.
In his speech to the BJP’s parliamentary party, Modi said that the opposition is frustrated and disappointed and its behavior shows that it has decided to stay in the opposition, sources quoted him as saying.
PM Modi has expressed confidence that the BJP will rule after the 2024 polls with the support of the people, asserting that India will become the third largest economy during his government’s next tenure.
Meanwhile, some opposition parties are likely to move a notice of no-confidence motion against the government in the Lok Sabha, PTI reported quoting sources.
The monsoon session, which began on July 20, was marked by frequent delays due to protests, sloganeering, and disruptions by members of the newly formed grand opposition alliance INDIA. Their main demand was a statement from Prime Minister Modi on the situation in Manipur, leading to a long list of pending legislative matters on the agenda.

While the opposition is seeking PM Modi’s response in the Lok Sabha on the situation in Manipur, the government said Union Home Minister Amit Shah will respond to the House on the matter.
Shah on Monday urged the protesting opposition to allow the discussion on Manipur to take place, saying it was an important issue and the country should know the truth of the sensitive situation.
