In Hungary, 182 members of the parliament voted in favor of Finland joining the alliance, and only 6 members voted against it. The Nordic country still needs Turkey’s approval for Finland to join the alliance.

At the beginning of this month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the ratification of Finland’s NATO membership will be completed before the presidential elections in Turkey on May 14.

On another note, Erdogan said that the ratification of Sweden’s NATO membership will depend on Stockholm’s future activities.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto signed the law allowing his country to join NATO on March 23. The president signed the law in Helsinki on Thursday after parliament approved it earlier this month.
