Abbas, Haniyeh will meet in Turkey before Cairo

A reliable source announced that there will be an upcoming meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Turkey.

The meeting is scheduled to take place a week before another meeting in Cairo that will bring together the secretaries-general of the various Palestinian factions.

Unlike Islamic Jihad, which demands the release of political prisoners as a condition for participation, Hamas has agreed to join the Cairo meeting without any preconditions. The last meeting between Abbas and Haniyeh took place in July 2022 at the initiative of Algerian President Abdulmajid Tebbou.

In addition, the Turkish Presidency has previously announced that it will hold two separate meetings between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and both Abbas and Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

However, Netanyahu’s visit to Ankara was postponed due to health and political instability in the occupied territories.

Since the 2007 accord between Fatah and Hamas in Mecca, Cairo has been persistently involved in reconciliation efforts between the Palestinian factions for the past 16 years.
