Hockey-Belgium beat Germany 3-1 with a second win in the men’s tournament

TOKYO (Reuters) – The Belgian men’s hockey team secured a 3-1 victory over Germany in a blatant match on Monday at the Tokyo Olympics.

The world champions Belgians took control of the game early, and striker Cedric Charlier hacked the ball behind the German goalkeeper twice in the first quarter.

It’s true that scoring here is a great feeling, Charlier said. As long as we work very aggressively together, that’s the most important thing for a team.

Emotions ran high on both sides in the second half, with Belgian defender Alexander Hendrickx adding to the pain of Germanys by scoring through the penalty corner of the fourth goal of the tournament.

They made four or five sliding matches, which is a yellow card every time, said Belgian veteran midfielder John-John Dohmen, who has more than 400 Lippi.

Even when they grabbed us, they came to us to fight.

We stayed really calm and I am really proud of that.

By the end of the match, Germany had been given two yellow and green cards. Belgium had collected one yellow card and two green cards. In land hockey, green cards lead to two-minute interruptions for players and yellow cards lead to five-minute interruptions.

The Germans were unable to penetrate their competitors ’defenses effectively enough to equalize points after receiving a penalty kick in the final quarter.

In the middle of the cloudy sky, the field was further sprayed with water during the half-time break to keep it fast and steady.

Officials adhered to the usual two-minute quarter breaks after Sunday’s extended break to allow players to cool off in cramped conditions.

In the women’s tournament, gold medal favorites Netherlands brushed Olympic winners Ireland 4-0.

The scorers were newcomer ace Felice Albers, who also scored twice in the opening match, Marlou Pheninckx, Laurien Leurink and veteran striker Frederique Matla.
