Dutch star Kiki Bertens is retiring from professional tennis

Kiki Bertens announced his retirement on Tuesday.

The Dutch Bertens record includes 10 WTA singles out of 15 finals, the first of which is Clay in FS in 2012, which he won in the qualifiers, when he had only a second main bet when performing after playing little on the junior track.

In 2018, Bertens won his first WTA 500 championship in Charleston (winner Julia Goerges in the final), followed by a victory later that summer at the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati (world champion in the 1st Simona Halep final, his fourth of the week’s top 10 wins and first reigning No. 1).

The following year, Bertens won the highest title of his career at the 2019 Mutua Madrid Open by defeating the top 10 players Petra Kvitova (QF), No. 8 Sloane Stephens (SF) and No. 3 Simona Halep (F)). Bertens was the first woman to win the title without letting go of the series.

In addition, Bertens twice successfully defended singles with Nrnberg Red Clay (2016-17) and indoors in St. Petersburg (2019-20). Other notable final appearances came in Madrid in 2018 (l. Kvitova) and the WTA Elite Trophy, Zhuhai in 2019 (Mr. Aryna Sabalenka). In her debut at the WTA Finals in Singapore in 2018, she advanced to the semis before dropping to eventually become champion Elina Svitolina.

Rising to 4th place in the world in the WTA rankings on May 13, 2019, Bertens overtook country girl Betty Stven to be the highest Dutchman of all time. The 1977 Wimbledon finalist finished 5th in singles. (Brenda Schultz-McCarthy also made it to the Top 10 and rose to 9th place in 1996.)

After making his Top 10 debut in October 2018, Bertens ended his career with three consecutive Top 10 seasons and placed 9th in the world in 2018-20.

In the Grand Slam, Bertens finished the semifinals on his favorite red clay at Roland Garros in 2016, where he shocked four seeds before dropping into the world’s first Serena Williams. He also reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2018, defeating Top 10 Venus Williams and Karolina Pliskova before falling to Goerges.

In the doubles, Bertens rose to 16th place and grabbed 10 titles from 16 finals, most recently in 2018 in Brisbane as a partner with his compatriot Demi Schuurs. All nine of her other titles, four of which in 2017 alone, were won with Swedes Johanna Larsson. That year, Bertens-Larsson advanced to the title race in the WTA Finals in Singapore, where the Babos / Sestini Hlavackova team flanked them to the title. They also made it to the two semi-finals of the Grand Slam (2015 Australian Open and 2016 Roland Garros).

In addition to being a double Olympician in addition to Tokyo, he also competed in Rio in 2016, and Bertens has a decade of service in the Netherlands in the Billie Jean King Cup. After his debut for the team in 2011, he went 21-2 in singles and 6-3 in singles in 21 ties, including the semifinals in 2016 (p. France).

During his career, Bertens made an impressive 23 wins against the top 10 opponents, including the WTA’s leading 12 wins in 2018. That same year, he was voted the WTA’s best player, while in 2019 he won the WTA’s Jerry Diamond ACES Award, which recognizes a player who transcends and transcends sports advertising.

Bertens registered his second career win as the first in the world to win Ashleigh Barty at the 2019 WTA Finals in Shenzhen, as an alternate. In 2019, only Barty won more matches on the tour (56) than Bertens (55), and only Pliskova (488) served more aces than Bertens 457.

Currently ranked 21st in the world, Bertens leaves the game with a record loss of 443-265 and a career prize money of $ 11653,190.
