Yorkshire Cricket joins forces with the Morrisons to fight a holiday famine in the community

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation has joined forces with the Morrisons to provide over 20,000 free meals and 1,000 hours of cricket throughout the summer to help some of the most vulnerable families in the area.

With many children coming from low-income households around the area, holiday hunger is a major problem for families who may not have access to free school meals throughout the summer month.

In West Yorkshire, 12 community centers now offer thousands of children a free nutritious lunch as part of Crick-Eat partnership.

The program also offers hours of interesting and fun cricket coaching from professionally trained coaches.

Bradford-born Adil Rashid, a Yorkshire cricket club player and English cricket, witnessed the meals in full swing while visiting Park Avenue in his hometown this week.

The foot-spinner said: It’s great to see such a great project that helps feed children in my community in Bradford.

“I’ve been to Park Avenue to watch the show, and it’s great to see that the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Morrisons are able to feed the kids who might be starving this summer.”

Elsewhere in Bradford, the Sutton Community Center, Karmand Community Center, Rockwell Center and Beap Community Partnership are selected as venues.

In Leeds, community centers include Hovingham Primary School, Bilal Sports Center and Brudenell Primary School in Harehills.

Elland Cricket Club in Calderdale, Liversedge Cricket Club in Kirklees and King James Fernside in Huddersfield are also involved.

The “masters” of the Morrisons community work with a local venue to deliver packed lunches, including snacks and refreshments, and more than 20,000 nutritious meals are to be served throughout the summer.

In addition to providing lunches, Morrisons, along with Colgate Palmolive, has provided 10,000 toothbrushes and 10,000 toothpastes to support children’s dental hygiene.

“No child should ever go hungry, so was proud to support Crick-EAT and the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation in this important partnership that brought the kids together for the summer with good food, cricket and fun!”

The Crick-EAT, which began this week, is valid until September 3rd.
