LOUISVILLE, Ky. Bellarmine University’s field hockey team began its first-year competition as a member of the Central American Conference this fall as the Knights begin a full 16-game game board that includes seven MAC competitions.
“Fall 2021 is Bellarmine’s field hockey will continue to be the first season,” said Bellarmine’s head coach Devanny Boisvert. “We are excited to be able to officially become a member of the Central American Conference and be able to compete in such a prestigious conference. We also expect to face more non-conference opponents this fall. and beyond. “
When their DI debut was delayed into spring due to COVID last school year, the Knights will return to traditional fall this year. Bellarmine plans to start the season on August 22 by hosting a Crosstown competitor from the Louisville Atlantic Coast Conference, with the first regular season game coming a week later against the second CardinalsBall State series. This game, along with Bellarmine’s first five “home” races, will be played at Trager Stadium on the UofL campus. In Ball State, it should also be noted that although the Cardinals are members of the MAC, on August 29, the match will not count towards the conference standings. The official league game is on October 15 in Muncie, Indiana.
Since their regular season debut, the Knights are playing four different games. This quartet competition opens when Bellarmine fights Rider in a neutral side game in Oxford, Ohio on September 3 before a trip to Bloomington three days later to take on the Indiana Hoosiers. The Knights will return to Louisville to host California-Davis on Sept. 10 and then immediately on a road trip to Davidson on Sept. 12.
Bellarmine’s MAC opener will arrive on Sept. 18 as the knights travel to Farmville, Virginia to receive Longwood University. Bellarmine then plays a negotiation game the next day at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Next weekend, the Knights will have a couple of non-league games in St. Louis. On Saturday, Sept. 25, Bellarmine will play Lock Haven University in neutral seat competitions, and the Knights will meet host St. Louis Billikens the next day.
Bellarmine will then play seven live MAC tournaments starting with hosting Kent State on October 2nd. The next road game at Ohio University on Oct. 8 is about to begin with a brief turnaround when Knights will host the state of Appalachians on Sunday, Oct. 10.
The next match with the Ball State will next follow the home game against Central Michigan 22. October. The Knights end their founding MAC campaign by traveling to Oxford on Oct. 29 to face the University of Miami.
The last game of the regular season is Sunday, October 31, when the Knights will receive Saint Francis. This game promises to be special for the Bellarmine team as the competition runs on Parent Days and is played on the Bellarmine campus at Owsley B.Frazier Stadium.
